Black silicon carbide is created at substantial temperature in an electric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its major uncooked marterials. Its hardness is between fused alumina and synthetic diamond. Mechanical depth of it is greater than fused alumina. It is brittle and sharp has electrical and warmth conductivity in some degree. The abrasives made of it are suited for doing work on forged iron, non-ferrous metal, rock, leather, rubber, and many others. It is also broadly utilized as refractory content and metallurgical additive.
